  • Acknowledgement: $5 per signing
  • Oath or affirmation without a signature: $5 per person
  • Signature witnessing: $5 per signature
  • Jurat: $5 per signature
  • Verification of fact: $5 per certificate
  • Notaries may change a travel fee, but only if it is
o   a. decided before the notarial act and o   b. the notary explains the travel fee is separate from the notarial fee and is not mandated by law.
  • A notary public is not required to charge a fee.
Other highlights of the bill include:
  • Requires the applicant to be able to read and write English
  • Contains clear definition of notarial terms
  • Defines what a notary public can and cannot do. For instance, the bill outlines what to do when a mark is used as a signature, and dictates a notary cannot complete an act for a blank document.
