Notary Public Underwriters
Notary Public Insurance
Are you protected?
Many notaries mistakenly believe that the notary bond protects the notary. However, this is not the case. The notary bond is designed to protect the public. If a claim is made against your bond, you are required to pay it back. Notary Public Errors & Omissions Insurance is designed to protect you, the notary.
We strongly recommend all notaries carry Notary Public Errors & Omissions Insurance. An innocent mistake could result in a verdict involving tens of thousands of dollars. With Notary Public Errors & Omissions Insurance, you can be protected from financial loss for a nominal amount.
Consider these actual cases:
- A property owner and a bank sued a notary. She did nothing wrong, but was deceived by identity thieves. The notary chose to pay to settle both lawsuits rather than endure prolonged litigation. An Errors & Omissions policy would have protected her.
- A notary witnessed the signature of a minor on a deed transfer, using a passport as identification. When the parents divorced, the notary was sued on behalf of the child by her legal guardian. Because she had an Errors & Omissions policy, the notary avoided substantial legal fees. She was fully protected.
- In a real estate transaction, a notary witnessed signatures that later proved to be forgeries. Even though she was acting on instructions from her boss, the notary was held liable for $5,000 in damages.
Just as you protect your home, car and other personal effects with insurance, you need to protect your notarial acts with Notary Public Errors and Omissions Insurance. Without one of these vital and affordable policies, you could face substantial legal fees - even if you are not at fault.
Notary Public Underwriters offers various levels of coverage to best meet your needs, even if you are a currently commissioned notary public. Rates can be prorated based on the remaining length of term. To see your options, select your state from the list below.
Notary Public Errors & Omissions policies are underwritten by Universal Surety of America, Western Surety Company and Surety Bonding Company of America.

Notary Public Underwriters & the Ecosystem
Notary Public Underwriters believes being ecologically friendly can also be economically viable. We are fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint and building a sustainable earth. Similar to all other areas of our company, we are constantly seeking new ways to improve and protect our environment.
Energy Efficient:
We installed a 25kW solar Photovoltaic system in May 2007, powering 22% of the business’ energy needs.
The solar PV system saves 27 tons of coal from being burned each year.
Our lighting is energy efficient and we use motion detectors to turn off key lights when not in use.
All windows in our building have tinted film to reduce HVAC energy consumption.
Products and Shipping:
We use biodegradable packing peanuts in shipping over 60,000 products each year.
The use of these environmentally friendly materials prevents 288 cubic feet of solid waste from ending up in our environment annually.
All stamps from our supplier, TRODAT, are completely free from harmful heavy metals such as zinc, calcium or lead which may be dangerous or damaging to the environment.
Recycling:
Notary Public Underwriters has always made a conscious effort to recycle paper, cardboard, aluminum, light bulbs, batteries, cell phones, ink cartridges and computer components.
Our recycling efforts save 13 tons of paper, 560 pounds of aluminum and 6 tons of cardboard from entering a landfill each year.
Nature:
Notary Public Underwriters built 3 on-site rain gardens, in addition to the required storm run-off pond, to prevent pollutants from traveling downstream by allowing the water to percolate directly to the ground.
Our rain gardens prevent precious downstream water from being polluted and soil from eroding.
Recognition:
Notary Public Underwriters is certified as a Photovoltaic Independent Power Producer by the City of Tallahassee.
Notary Public Underwriters was a 2008 finalist for Green Business of the Year – Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.
Notary Public Underwriters was featured in eco-friendly articles written in the Tallahassee Democrat, in a recent Eco-Smart program on the local government access channel, WCOT and on WCTV regarding a Solar Power press conference with Mayor Marks.
Employee Participation:
The employees saw the company’s participation in the Green Revolution and decided to take the idea home. Many staff members have started recycling with their families and have switched to energy-efficient light bulbs. The Notary Public Underwriters employees are always looking for more ways to recycle and help out through community outreach projects. Two projects employees pioneered within the company are recycling aluminum can tabs for the local Ronald McDonald House and ink cartridges for the Leon County Humane Society.
Notary Public Underwriters in the Community
