House Bill 1683 will be effective January 1, 2016. The new law requires the Secretary of State’s Office to assign an identification number to each notary. The notary will then be required to display the ID number on their seal.
The official number seal should now contain the words “Notary Public, state of Texas,” notary public’s name, their ID number, and the date their expiration date (of their commission).
The commission process will not be altered for the notary, but if you are commissioned after January 1, 2016 ensure your seal contains your notary ID number.
