The State of Montana requires notaries to purchase a notary bond. A notary bond is a surety bond that protects the public against any wrongdoing on the part of a notary. The notary bond will compensate an individual harmed as a result of errors or mistakes performed by a Montana notary.
The Montana notary bond is a $10,000 bond and is valid throughout your 4-year notary commission in the State of Montana. In addition to the notary bond, it is also required that a Montana notary obtain a state-approved notary seal and pay a $25 state filing fee. The notary bond, state filing fee, and a notarial seal are available in our basic notary package.
Notary Public Underwriters is approved by the State of Montana as a notary bonding agency and we offer you everything you will need to become a Montana notary or renew your Montana notary commission. We have an online notary application process that allows you to fill out the state required application, purchase the required notary supplies and other notary accessories that will assist you in sufficiently performing your notarial duties.
Our online application requires you to purchase with credit card. If you want to pay by check or money order, please visit our Montana Notary Forms to download, complete and mail in with payment.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
The notary bond DOES NOT protect the notary!
Should an error or mistake occur while performing a notarial act, the Montana notary is liable to reimburse the surety company for the loss. A notary will need to purchase a Montana Notary Public Errors and Omissions Insurance policy to ensure his or her protection. Notary Public Underwriters highly recommends E&O protection for our notary customers.
Don't confuse the required notary bond with an errors & omissions insurance policy. If you have further questions, contact us at 888.826-9271 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
