Increase your expertise and income by becoming a notary signing agent today. It is one more step toward becoming a better notary and to understanding more of the business—while adding to your income. Many mobile notaries use it as supplementary income—you can earn between $50 and $150 per closing, depending on how you receive loan signing appointments (primarily from signing services or direct work). Signing agents are mobile notaries who assist with loan signings. The notary is the final hurdle to the loan completion; they ensure the documents are notarized and returned in time, allowing the loan to be funded.
Many Signing Agents work primarily with mortgage closings. With the housing market collapse in 2007, the mortgage industry is relying more on notaries to provide the trust and assurance people need to guarantee their loans are properly filed. Furthermore, with lower interest rates in many states, qualified signing agents are needed more than ever to help with new and adjusted mortgages. Within this process, the Signing Agent does not need to answer any particular questions pertaining to what the document means, if an individual is confused by the contents of one of the mortgage documents they should contact their lender; the rule that a notary public should not offer legal advice still stands. The Signing Agent is solely there to ensure the documents are properly notarized. Since, the agent is hired as an independent contractor, it ensures no bias. Though, you do not need to offer advice on the content of the documents, the Signing Agent needs to understand certain loan documents and paperwork to complete their job. Certain states do have restrictions to what a signing agent can complete, and each required signing agent education course is tailored to the state in which you reside. The only qualification to become a Signing Agent is to be a commissioned, certified notary public and have proper training. Are you a notary signing agent? Have stories or advice for others?
