Notaries: You Perform RONs, Not the Technology

Widespread adoption of remote online notarization (“RON”) across the U.S. has prompted a lot of interest in becoming a notary public. Notary-centric social media posts are full of information and opinions about becoming a notary and performing RONs.
Experienced notaries know that while RON presents different circumstances and tools for performance of a notarial act, the fundamental requirements of notarization are the same no matter the method used to notarize.
In short, technology can never “stand-in” for the notary. Technology does not create “push-button” notarization.
These points are crucial because a brand-new notary’s expectations are often shaped by enthusiastic, social-media depictions of RON that could be balanced by a candid look at the work a new notary should (must!) first do to become educated in performing notarial acts in general. Once that all-important foundation of basic notarial knowledge is set, then a new notary can begin exploring their notarization technology options.
For that all-important foundation, Notary Public Underwriters, Inc. offers state-specific notary education courses as well as a Florida-specific course on performing remote online notarizations. Browse your notary education options at https://notarypublicunderwriters.com/course-catalog.
