Volunteering – Doing Good While Gaining Notary Experience

Whether your brand-new Notary commission was a requirement of your job or, your own decision because you want to earn income notarizing for the general public, your first challenge is getting the practical experience you need to gain confidence in your notarization skills.

Taking a Notary course is an essential first step, but every new Notary needs the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned.  Even employee Notaries find it’s hard to rapidly gain experience when they are only occasionally asked to perform an on-the-job notarization.

If you’re a new Notary interested in giving while getting a needed benefit in return, consider volunteering to perform notarizations free-of-charge for local small businesses, institutions, or service agencies.  Some good examples of these include churches, libraries, social service centers, and assisted living facilities.

Many communities have umbrella organizations that provide various support services to multiple local agencies and institutions.  Consider offering your free Notary services to those umbrella organizations whose activities connect you with their constituents.

Your Notary volunteerism can be structured to fit your typical schedule.  You can offer on-site services, on certain days of the week or month.  You can offer to take appointments with individuals in need.  You can designate certain days of each week to be available on-demand.

Regardless how you manage your Notary volunteerism, it will likely be the most fulfilling way you ever use your notarial powers.  Not to mention, you’ll demonstrate the commitment to public service that is the beating heart of a Notary Public.
