Six Essentials For a Mobile Notary

Now that you have your notary commission, you are ready to get out there and start your mobile notary business. But what supplies do you need? Here are the six essentials that we suggest every mobile notary carry with them.
Your notary seal
This may seem obvious; however, almost every state requires the use of either an ink stamp or an embossing seal. Also, remember that if you are using an embosser alone (if allowed in your state) be sure to have a seal impression inker to render your seal impression photographically reproducible.
Your notary record book (also called a notary journal)
While this is also not required in every state, Notary Public Underwriters highly recommends that every notary use one. The record book will help protect you if a notarization you performed is ever called into question.
General supplies
Make sure you have a good supply of blue and black pens, paper, and even a stapler in the event you need to attach a notarial certificate.
Notarial certificates
Occasionally, you may be presented with a handwritten document that does not have a notarial certificate, or the certificate that is preprinted on the document does not comply with your state’s notary laws or rules. It is always good practice to have loose certificates or even certificate stamps.
Notary Handbook
New and even seasoned notaries may encounter situations where they are unsure whether they can accept a certain form of identification or if they can perform a particular notarial act. In such cases, having your handbook on hand may help you find the answer quickly.
Business cards
Business cards are still a great way to advertise your services. You never know when you may get a call for another job.
All these items should fit well in your briefcase and will be essential for your mobile notary business.
